Vet Bonding Scheme

Administered by Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)

This scheme supports graduate vets working in rural practices that focus on production animals. It provides $55,000 over 5 years to eligible applicants.

MPI set this scheme up to help ease the shortage of vets working with production animals. The scheme aims to attract and keep graduate vets into rural practice. It provides money to recently graduated vets who work in an eligible practice with a focus in production animals. 

Recently graduated vets are eligible for $55,000 over 5 years

People taking part in the scheme are eligible for $55,000 over the 5 years of the scheme. You will be paid in 3 installments at the end of 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the scheme.

MPI contact participants near their anniversary date and send them an Eligibility for Payment form to complete.

You can apply for the scheme if you:

  • have graduated from Massey University’s Bachelor of Veterinary Science in the 12 months before submitting your application
  • are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • are registered to practise in New Zealand and hold a current practising certificate
  • have a full-time position or an offer of employment in an eligible practice.
