Healthy Waterways - Riparian programme

Administered by Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC)

This initiative provides advice on sustainable land practices and financial help to landowners. The aim is to help them achieve better water quality and biodiversity on the whenua.

This programme is open for applications now.

Landowners who have a waterway on their property may qualify for help from the Greater Wellington Regional Council. They can help you with:

  • 50% of the costs of fencing
  • 50% of the costs of pest plant control
  • 50% of the costs of planting on the margins around the waterway
  • traps or bait stations at cost price
  • lending traps and provide advice for animal pest management
  • technical advice and expertise to restore your wetland.

The most you can apply for is $15,000 per landowner.
